97 voyager 3.0 ac compressor

Recently the ac belt fell off, so I went to the parts store and bought both the ac belt and the drive belt. I replaced both of them but now whenever I turn on the ac it makes a very loud squeaking noise. The compressor looks like its trying to turn and you can smell the belt burning. Did I do something wrong when installing the belt or do I need a new compressor?

The bearing for the a/c compressor pulley is bad.Do not get a new a/c compressor,fail after one day,they are junk and the warrenty sucks.I have had better luck with used ones and last longer than a new one.Go to your nearest auto salvage yard and get an used a/c compressor.

So if the bearing for the a/c compressor pulley is bad do I have to replace the whole compressor or can I just replace the bearing? A bout how much will a used compressor run at a junk yard?

Probally have the place the whole a/c compressor .It depends what the price is,about $50-$100.00 and the ones with rear air are more.

Have you tried readjusting the tension on the belt? It appears there is a manual adjustment on the A/C drive belt on the 3.0 engine. I would try that first before jumping to the wrong conclusion and spending bucks on a compressor you may not need.

Do you mean lossening the belt?

No, I would tighten the belt a little at a time until the squeal goes away. If it never goes away you may have trashed the new belt. If the surface that contacts the pulley is shiny that may be the case.

If readjusting the belt doesn't work then wafrederick may be right. Just seams like the bearings freezing right as you changed the belt is a mighty big coincidense.

Changed the A/C belt on a Toyota a while back. It made the same squeal when turning on the A/C. I just tightened it until the squeal went away. Been quiet ever since. Just be aware you can overtighten a belt. It will effect bearing life. You can buy a fancy measuring tool or put a straight edge across the pullies and push down on the belt with moderate pressure. The deflection measurement is the distance between the belt surface and the straight edge. A rough rule of thumb is no more than .5 inches. Check with a dealer to make sure.
