My friend has a 91 Ford Probe, and hes trying to put in a new CD player, only the previous owner cut the factory harness, and wired it to another one, so it can be hooked up to a yamaha tape deck. so I was trying to figure this out, and i got power to his new cd player, only i cant get speakers to work, then i though about the power antenna wire, i sent power to it, but the motor for the antenna is bad so there was not movement, but since i hooked it up, i got the front speakers to work, only, all i did was connect one wire, and the speaker worked, just fine, and i dont know why, and i can only get something out of the front two. Is there some kind of Amp in the dash, or is there something really messed up, or any ideas on what i can do????

Most of the probes that I have delt with come with a factory amp. Only it is not under the dash it is in the back passanger side. You can get a bypass switch for it but what you probably were hooking up was the factory amp that you got connected. what you are going to want to do most likely is to look around and see if you can find the wiring colors for the car i have seen them posted on a few sites i just dont know what one it is off the top of my head right now. Also once you get everything hooked up how it is suposed to be hooked up it should all work. I had simalar problems about 6 months ago installing a kenwood in my old system.

If all you did was hook up one wire for the speaker more than likely it will have an amp and a common ground system. If you cant get it to work you may have to run new speaker leads to each speaker.

I haven't seen a commen ground in a car stereo in 20 years! wederquist was on the right track about the amp. Check out the12volt.com for a diagram

All of the amp's are under the passenger seat if it was installed with the Premium sound package. The GT's came with a 5" sub-woofer that was located in the right rear window in the trunk area (there are little slots in the panel on top that you can see that look like air vents.)and the amp for that was located in front of the right rear speaker. Look for the wires under the PASSENGER seat. The wireing left the radio and went to the amp under the passenger seat, then to the amp. After the amp it went to the speakers and the power antenna. You need an adapter that will plug into the factory harness at the clip leaving the radio to the amp or just run all of the wires yourself. The factory wires are only 18 guage wireing. If you want good sound run 14-16 gauge and wire it all yourself.
If you want I can e-mail you a diagram of the system for the 1991. I would just re-wire it and know that it was done right and not have to worry about what I may or may not burn up........
