92 regal 3.8 stall RPM Signal Problem

I have a 92 regal custom 3.8. It drove like a champ until recently. It seems when the car heats up it starts to die when you get off the gas, ie coming up to traffic around 45 mph or to a light. It doesnt always do it but when it does sometimes you can restart it in N but other times you have to pull/push off the road and give it some time. It is really frustrating, I have searched all over the net for troubleshooting tips for the error I got. I get an error code of 17. I researched it up and got RPM Signal Problem. Like I said I cannot find much information on that trouble code. Does anyone have any experience on what this code entails. Furthermore it runs pretty rough, and is eating more gas then normal. Thanks for any help.

Forgot the first time it wouldnt start for awhile, I got a ride home and went back and picked it up. It was at night, and the highways were dead. Its about 35 miles to my house from where it stalled out at. I drove it really hard, trying to get it to stall out again. It was considerably cooler outside then during the day. But it did not stall out, my wife has it stall on her pretty regularly. I also changed out the fuel filter recently.

Do you have a service engine soon light on? I don't think a code 17 would trigger this. Chances are, if you are losing your rpm signal only when the car is hot, you may have a crank sensor that is bad. When your car quits running you need to check for spark. If you lost spark odds are that the crank sensor is bad.

No I dont get any service lights. I changed maf but it still did stall. Whats wierd I ran the a/c yesterday and it didnt cut out on me. Even though I changed the maf it still stalled I think im going to take it back.
