euro vs. us spec 528e?

does anyone know what the differances are between the us spec and euro spec cars for the 1985 528e? I am thinking about buying a 328 or 528 and from everything that i have seen, the euro cars look much better. Are there any drawbacks of the cars other than availability of the actuall car? I was thinking that parts might be hard to find or more expensive. There is a car in the paper (85 528e Euro) that is only 1650. I know that you cant say if this is a good deal without seeing the car, but is this a reasonable price for the model? If anyone has any information that would help me, i would be very happy. If euro cars turn out to be the way to go, then it would also be helpful to know a good place to find them for sale. Also, any web sights that contain information would be nice as well.

I currently live in Germany, and have asked this question also. There's plenty of differences btw the euro and US spec. cars. 1. the windsheild does not have the shatter proff on it. 2. the speedometer is in km instead of miles. 3. the coolest though the euro spec is not govenered unlike the US specs. My 528i is governed @ 130mph. I've pushed it to the limit and it cries out for more. It handels perfectly at 130 mph as of you were at 55mph. 4. I think they don't require a catalytic converter. There are other differences also. I don't know where you live but we cannot bring a euro spec vehicle back to the states without paying about 5000.00 to get it converted to US specs. Hope that this helps in your decision.

Thanks for that info. Its so sad that they make it so hard to get a nice Euro spec car in the USA. I guess it is just all of those american manufactures, like GM, that want to protect the fact that they can make crappy cars. Anyways, your car sounds awesome and I hope to have mine running like that in the next few years. My girlfriend owned a 1983 528e (which is what got me started on BMWs in the first place), and just recently got a newer volvo. Lucky me, I got to buy the Bimmer off her. The car needs a lot of work, but I look forward to the hours of learning enjoyment that will soon follow.

we have an 84 525e (euro) and a 84 528e, the main difference is that the euro version is lighter, handles better, and is faster and it doesn't have all that power windows and luxury junk. It also don't have catalitic so it's a bat out of hell!
most parts are the same with the exception of the ECU and internal engine parts like the pistons and valves.

Oh I forgot to mention that the 525e has 450,000 miles on the original engine and trans.
