Quick Q - Mirror Replacement

Hey folks, anyone miss me? I have been away for far too long...

Anywho, here's the scoop. I had to recently replace a driver's side rearview mirror. I guess after about 11 years of use, the hinge that allows the miror to fold back was siezed up with crap; and being plastic, it cracked rather than folded. Funny story behind this:

I was just getting out of the local E.R. after admitting myself for some heinous food poisoning. Sick, weak, and a shot of donnagel and 2 liters of I.V. saline flowing through me, I walk back out to the parking lot. I do not understand why HUGE people drive such tiny cars, but out of this little white Hyundai comes these morbidly obese woman. Obviously her partner having failed the parking part of her driving exam, she is parked 6 inches over the white line into my stall. Squeezing her fat as heck a$$ out of the passenger side, she squeezes between the body of the little white car and my driver's side of my truck, cracking the plastic along the underside of the mirror when it failed to fold forward. I ended up driving home and the past 3 weeks with a woggling mirror with just the thinnest strip of plastic underneath holding it up.

Then, what finished it off was stopping while driving home from work for a quick lunch. I run into a friend of mine that wants to talk, and he leans on the mirror, breaking it clean off. He apologized, and told him not to worry, I was going to replace it anyway. So A day later, I got my replacement in hand. It looks good! Picked it up from O'Reilley's for a mere song, compared to the $189 AC/Delco part at the dealer. ($43 after taxes). I disassemble the door, bolted it in, yadd-yadda. It's solid. The frame does not dance around like even the factory original miror did. But - the mirror glass was apparently scientifically crafted to resonate in precise harmonics to a warm idling 4.3 V-6 at about 625-650 RPM.

My question is, do I return this $45 cheapie mirror or is there a way to tighten up the gimbal or whater is inside the mirror body that supports the glass so it does not vibrate about in a fashion that makes everything you see in it at idle look like a cheap 50's movie scene where a hypnotist tries to mesmerize someone?

Hey Wolfox, Glad you came back home.
I replaced both my factory mirrors with one's I got from EBAY. $80.00 They are just fine one year later and no dancing glass. O'Reilley's should refund your cash anytime your not happy with the product.

I bought two mirrors from rockauto for about $20 each. Neither one of them dance. Don't think that you should have to deal with vibration, just because you didn't spend $200.

I have experienced Rockauto.com in the past, why I didn't think of that, I do not not know. Thanks for the advice and the welcome everyone. :D This wolfox will not stray too far from home, but likes to go walkabout, especially when the truck's running at its peak. :D New parts ordered - the other one's going back to O'reily's as soon as they arrive. Should be here mid coming week. I got the pair so the weathered plastic on the passenger side no longer exists. I need to try that cutting glaze and 3m plastic polish trick to do the rest of the truck's body and plastic cladding.

Speaking of mirrors, I have a '99 LT Blazer with the heater and dimmer option on the driver side. The mirror has gone to a yellow colors. I am interested in replacing with a like mirror that has the dimmer but I can't find anyone that sells the one with the dimmer. All have the heater but no dimmer option.

Does anyone know of a place to get the '99 Blazer mirror w/heater and dimmer option?

The early mirror (black plastic with low hinge) have no metal plate in the mounting area as the 99up ones do so they are a problem - to really solve switch both to the full hinge type 99up that have an integrated metal mounting bracket bejind the 3 bolt on holes.
