I need 2 camaro's! well, actually i wanted to do a v8 swap on my car but to do it properly would be $2500-$3000+ ( although my dad says i could do it for $300) I saw one of my friends i havnt seen in a few years at my graduation party. He says he has a 1986 Z28, he's asking $750 for it...it has a 350CI V8 with a holley double pumper carb he says it runs and drives. Although i havnt seen more than the backend of it. It has a different colored body panel on it...other than that i dont know much of the condition, im going to look at it tommorow. i figured this maybe the better route than putting a v8 in my camaro....anything specific i should look for? im gonna bring my camera and take alot of pictures

Is he selling it cheap becaue he's a friend or because it needs a lot of work, take that into consideration. I don't see a lot of carbed third gens around, wait I don't think I've seen any.

it needs work, i'll find out how much tommorow....i dont get a discount
my camaro is carbed, the engine in this camaro is carbed but it isnt the original engine though....he says it runs and drives well so even if the body is in terrible shape it would be worth it to swap the parts onto my camaro which has a excellent body

Yeah you might as well as buy it for the engine.. and other parts to swap over to yours if it does suck.

No they didnt have injection all third gen years.. I think 85 is when they first started offering them.. or 87.

remember cross-fire fuel injection? they had that in 82 & 83..maybe 84 so it was pretty close.............Now i went to see the camaro today..experience is as follows:
I brought a battery and i heard it run..it ran good..but for some reason. he couldnt get it into park...he pushed the shifter all the way forward ( it doesnt have a shift indicater) by theory it should have been in park...maybe the shifter isnt hooked up....so because it wasnt in park and the e-brake was on...it would be like power braking...it would almost spin the mickey thompsons out back but it couldnt and it would die...so before we hurt the tranny we quit that...........the car is a dark red...it has the front drivers side fender thats bright red.....no dents on the body..on the rear passenger q-panel theres some rust, flaking rust. no holes...the interior is mostly complete......minus shifter bezel and horn button...the engine is a 5.7L v8 with a holley 750cfm double pumper. its got an electric fan...part of the spoiler is gone..the end part........its got flat mickey thompson tires..they hold air though...the car used to be a part time drag car..its got a sticker on the radiator that says " wabash valley dragway inspected" thats a 1/8 mile not far from here.........it used to be a really nice car...but from sitting 2 years..it shows it....its got potential though...alot of it.......i'll post pics soon

Now the guy got the car when he was like 15, and his family has run into some troubles and he hasnt ever ran into enough money to fix it ......he is getting tired of watching it rust away in his backyard.....if anything else i just wanna save it...to many f-bodys in the junkyard....

Areas of concern,

I noticed that the apilar has 2 spots on it, are they rust? Also the driver's door is off, check for rot on the rocker panels and floor support directly undr the seats.

Cars that cheap go one of two ways,

Looks good run bad, or looks bad runs good.

Yeah but for $750.... The Holley's worth at least $400 in decent shape.

Buy it and hope for the best and plan for the worst. Just so long as it's not all rusted out underneath. Dents and mechanical shit you can deal with reasonably... rust and body work gets expensive.

Even if you dropped a brand new trans in, you'd be into it for what... $750 + $2500. get it painted for $1500, maybe freshen up the interior for $1000, and allow 1500 for other crap that'll surely go wrong... $7250 and you're good to go... Don't have that much.. don't spend that much.
