Video Card Question

Greetings, I am looking into upgrading to a MacBook Pro sometime in the near future. My question to you is which video card should I go with?

Naturally I would love to save some money and go with the 128 MB card. Or, in efforts to ensure that the rather large investment keeps up with the latest games, would the 256 MB card be the better choice? I was planning on going w/ 2 gigs of ram regardless of which model just FYI.

If you're going for games why are you getting a laptop? For gaming desktops can be upgraded far beyond what any laptop can do. If you're dead set on a laptop get the 256 card as that will keep you current for a while although in a couple of years that prolly won't be enough to run the cheapest games.

Exactly what Dave said, why are you getting a LAPTOP for GAMING? That is not a smart idea.

And the bigger the graphics card, the more it will hurt your battery life.

I am a college sophmore just looking to have the occasional fun with friends on our LAN and portability is a must.

With that said I'd be interested to see the performance for the MacBook with integraded video because that machine is perfect for my tastes. (Sleek and portable)

However, if worse comes to worse, I have never delt with anything else besides integrated video which is where my question between 128MB and 256MB came from in reference to a laptop upgrade.

The only games i'm looking into playing right now are CS:1.6, Starcraft and Call of Duty. I would like to think I could sacrifice fps and pixel performance and be fine with the 128MB. What do you guys think?

Yeah, go with 128mb for value. You have to remember that the FSB of a laptop is much lower, so less able to push things like graphics cards and memory as hard as desktops.

What games run on a Mac? Or are you planning to run Bootcamp?

bootcamp running XP Pro because w/the Target Team Member discount you can pick it up for $129.

Buying a Mac then using a ported Operating System do you can play games on a laptop, so you're optioning up the graphics card.

I understand your viewpoint and I am not here to try to prove you wrong, just telling you what I have heard.
In all honesty, in reference to bootcamp, people have said that it makes the Macbook Pro one of the fastest PCs available. The software is also still in beta to be fully released standard w/Apple's next OS. My main reasoning behind my decision on a Mac is to delieve a new OS use, since I'm not an avid gamer to begin with, while still having XP to fall back on if need be.

Maybe thats just me,
