I have a good question for the transmission guys out there. I just got done with my upper-end rebuild on my 1994 Grand Am 2.3L. I took it on its maiden run and it had a shifting problem on the 4t60-e trans. I took the pan off and looked around, and found the the 1-2 accumulater spring broke in 3 pieces. Question is would this give the same symptoms as a bad A-silenoid? slow hard shift from 1 to 2 gear, and shift up problems after kick down on the interstate.

Yes! Replace the spring and the trans should be as good as it was before it broke.

Great thanks, I called around and it sounds like I have to get it from a transmission shop. No parts stores here have a part number here for it. not sure why, plus the one I have looks different then all the ones I have seen on line. Mine only has one spring and all others have 2 springs, maybe from a shift kit?

That is very possible but I would also check with a dealer for the part. On small parts they are usually reasonably priced. You can also check a wrecking yard. They may have some junk transmissions that you could get a complete valve body from for a couple of bucks.

Well, the dealer said that GM no longer supplies the Spring I needed. Go figger GM dumping on people again. I dd get a spring from a Trans shop that had some used parts. I sure hope GM gets there act together soon, before they are no longer the Heartbeat of America. I will let you know how the trans performs after a few days.
