Reasonable price to fix ignition switch?

I need to fix the ignition switch on my 98 VW golf GL Automatic 4cyl.
The problem I'm having is that when I start the car I have no lights, wipers, A/C, heater ect.. I'm positive its the ignition switch because I use to be able to hold the key and turn it clockwise while I drove to get wipers or lights to work. now that doesnt even work. I got an estimate from a repair shop of $469.00 to fix it. I want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off. I know the work is intensive ( I hate dealing with the steering colomn/airbag issue) but that seems a little high if you have the right tools and know what your doing.

Any feedback would be great
thx

Sounds high to me. How much labor are they charging?

They want HOW much??? That is insane, I just did my switch in a '97 Golf CL in under 25 mins using simple hand tools and a cheap puller. I never did the job before, so I had to learn as well. It is dead simple, and I had no trouble at all. Just go for it and do it yourself, or find a shop that charges real time for a job like that. No more than an hour, max!! E mail me at [email protected] and I will walk you through it. Cheers!
