ideas for saving gas

im looking for the best ways to save at the pump. my truck has the K&N intake system that i just cleaned and used just a little bit of oil this time. i cleaned my maf sensor. i have flowmaster exhaste. i have a new fuel filter. im changing my spart plugs on saturday. any suggestions on what plugs to get? is 8 bucks a pop for bosch platinum 4 worth it?

Honestly, I'd put right back in what came in it from the factory. Just seems to work best 95% of the time. I've had bad experience with bosch plugs in both a blazer and saturn and will not buy them again, but others love them. It's relatively cheap, buy some and give it a try. At the worst, you'll have to buy more and put them in later. Honestly, I like AC Delco and stick to it. The factory has done the testing and if it is good enough for them it's good enough for me.

You might want to consider synthetic lubricants. You probably already have a synthetic rear differential lube from the factory, ask your dealer about that. Next oil change try Mobil 1 for the engine. Your owners manual probably recommends 5W-30. When I went to synthetics in my 92 Chev 4X4 in both differentials and engine, I gained at least 1 MPG. I wouldn't use the Bosch platinum 4. Even though there are 4 tips, only one fires at any given time, which is the same as any other plug. AC Delco works as good as any.

i have synthetic blend in the motor, i just canged my oil less than a month ago. your right i should change the diff oil too.

My 2005 Silverado came with synthetic in the rear differential and yours may already have it too. Ask your dealer what is in it before you just go and change it.

I'm not saying synthetic blend formulas are bad, A "BLEND" meaning it's not true synthectic like Mobil 1. It is a blend of hydrocarbon oil stock, it could be group 1, 2, or 3 base stock. Then poly oil base stocks are blended. The problem is you don't know the percentage, which can be 80/20 50/50...etc. 100% synthetic is true polyaphaofins.Amsoil and Mobil 1 are the most reconnized true synthetics using POA's (not ester oils, mineral oils,hydrocarbon based syn.) They is no set standard by the API which states how much POA's must be blended to make them claim it's synthectic. It can be 10% POA to 90% group 2 or 3 (the higher # the better grade crude stocks).

do all your shoping in one trip for the week.

stay off the brakes. i see a lot of ppl riding there brakes. on going down hill just let the truck roll. the rpms will drop and you can just take the next one with the speed you build up.

you dont need to ask the dealer. If its synthetic, there will be a plate on the passenger top of the diff that states it needs synthetic. At least its on my truck.
