We'll my 92 Q with only 74k miles needs a trans.
When I start the car there is the high pitch noise (pump I think), then I put the trans in gear and nothing.
I have a quote from $3k for Infiniti reman to $2.4k junk yard special. I did find a transmission place in Phoenix online that has a new trans for $1,100k....any advice?
Pete.

Infiniti remaufactured. All else are just a crapshoot. There is a place in Phoenix with a name like European Motors? Check AZhitman's posts on NICO.
Presume you have addressed the timng chain guide issue?

Thanks, I did find a place out of phoenix with reman units, not sure of the name. I'm also now considering rebuilding the trans myself with rebuild kit with Raybestos blue clutch packs.
I haven't addressed the timing chain guide....should I?

Absolutely! Why remanufacture the transmission when the engine is about to fail? It is not a question of if.
If you think you can rebuild the transmission as well as a dedicated Nissan line, got for it. But I would not cheap it out with Made in China parts from US retailers. Look at something from Level10 or somebody else. Might as well go heavy duty.

Pete -
Hit me up on NICO, I just ordered a JDM takeout motor for under $600, and they have transmissions as well.
Thanks!
