Dude it could literally be ANYTHING. Does it go away, or just sort of die out as the rpm's get louder. Is it more of a knock or a tick? I wouldn't even start it until you get it fixed. I'm betting that the rod bearings are shot.

If it in fact a rod bearing, I would not even start the car. If you caught it fast enough before you did any real damage (which you might be past this point if you drove it for aways) then you can just swap out the bearings with some new ones. Otherwise you'll have to pull the motor and have to have the crank ground, and if you really fucked it up you'll need new rods because they can't be machined. $300-400 minimum if you do all the work yourself (tearing it out and apart and then putting it back together and back in) Otherwise a garage will probably charge you $1000+

A garage will cost more than your car is worth. Sounds kinda like a rod bearing to me too, though it could be lifter tick. I had some really fuckin loud lifter tick. I would start it and listen. If the tick sounds like its coming from the top half of the engine, lifter tick or the exhaust manifold and/or turbo isnt bolted down good. If its lower end, its a rod bearing (I've heard it called a low pitched ping where lifter tick is more of a click) in which case you immediately shut off the car and either A) get to work B) find a mechanically inclined friend c) cry or d) have a tow truck take it to a shop and get ready for the huge garage/machinist price cock to be stuffed into your ass.

LMAO!! I laughed out loud when I read that, that's a pretty good one.

Bigred, I think you should have it looked at before you start doing anything with it, unless you know how to do all that good stuff. If the motor is shot, check out www.car-part.com for some used and some reman'd motors. They're cheaper than the stealership and most are just as good.

You better use the search on that one. Read the stickies, it isn't a feasible option. You should be able to buy a turbo car for what the conversion would cost you in time, effort, and $$$$$$$. You are basically stuck with the 420a, and if you have have to ask then you shouldn't attempt it. :2cents:

www.vfaq.com will answer any other questions of this nature you may have. GL :smooch:
