today while l was driving to work, l suddenly relaized that LT1 engines are very relaible!

l have had a lot of problems and l am famous here because of that! but l relaized that l have never had ENGINE problem with my car.. my car has 133k on the clock and it has odometer fraud and l think it is close to 150k miles. since l got the car l gun the engine many many times.. god knows how the previous owners drove the car.. (probably beat the sh*t out of it, cuz when l got her, l had to fix many part (not ENGINE). 2 days ago l went to my mechanics place and surprisely he was not busy and he was waiting for bussiness. and we started to talk about engines.. and l said well l have been driving this car so hard and probably previous owners did the same too and this car has 133k on the clock and the real mileage is probably close to 150k and l have had a lot of problems but never with the engine.. do you think somebody built it recently? and he said lets open the heads and lets take a look at your engine and lets see how she is.. he opened the heads andhe go under the car and he check some places (which l dont know) and he said man this engine is bone stock and never been built. well my heads werent rusty or bad looking at all.. they were just normal (not shiny). and l told him how do you know that.. and he said that he could tell by looking at it. and he told me power hurts engine and this car has the power but still looks good.. that means these car's engines are relaible.. and he told me, let's assume this car is brand new and you got it today. if you drive it normal.. (not racing or modding) l would say you would see 300k miles. and l said DAMN!! l was happy to hear that from a very very GOOD mechanic as an f-body fan! :)

so what do you think guys??

The LT1 is a pretty well thought out engine, except for the waterpump leaking onto to distributor problem, which could be avoided by a quick look-over every once on a while..

I don't think the LT1 or the LS1 engine are the problem. I think it's the electrical system that is somewhat flawed (Oh, and the 10 bolt rearend too).

If you really like your LT1 there is no point in selling it.

Now fix that opti spark. I guy I know from another board never really worked on cars and was able to do it on his own.

first of all l love how LS1s looks and more powerful and will be manual tranny. mine is auto (which l hate), 133k miles and old. l cannot have fun with this car anymore..

also yeah.. l can fix the opti by myself but l dont have second ride to start to work on my formula..

l think LT1s are strong and relaible engines..

yeah.. l dont compare any american muscle with any ricers.. LT1s are fast for other regular street cars but for muscle car we are slow.. they made family cars, SUVs, Trucks faster than LT1s.. for me LT1s are slow.. l need faster.:)

Compared to many cars a stock LT1 is fast. It all depends on what your comparing it to but compared to its strongest competition which was the Camaro (same exact car a little heavier) and the Mustang. The Formula was a quick car. Infact 90% of the old school muscle cars would have a hard time taking out a LT1 Formula but while the LT1 engine is a nice engine when geared with the crappy 2.73's that came with most auto's. It makes the engine feel like less than it is.
