Hi!

I intend to buy a 4th Gen Trans Am WS6 with LS1 engine (98-02). Lately I talked to an american enthusiast who told me, that there are some electronic parts (e.g. ECU) which aren't built anymore and if I would buy such a car, that I will have very much trouble getting spare parts if some of electric stuff breaks (which will happen sooner or later).

Is there some truth to this rumor? I thought car makers committed themselves to sell spare parts at least 10-15 years after a model was discontinued?

Thank you in advance.

Car manufacturers do stock parts after a model is discontinued but as with every car there comes a time when the dealer doesn't carry parts for it anymore. Not to fear though because junk yards and aftermarket parts will usually fill the void. With Trans Am I doubt you'll be unable to find parts for it for a very long time.

My car is a 94 and I can walk into a dealer and get pretty much any part on my car within 24 hours. So thats not true yet but like mentioned there will be a day when you won't be able to do that.
