proper clutch adjustment

Ok my clutch pedal engagement is extremely high. I know there is a way to adjust it by unscrewing the screw below the pedal near the firewall. I was just wondering what are the best techniques, are there any diagrams, which screw is it, can i do any damage by doing this, etc ? Thank You Guyzzz
