okay, I already posted aobut this in 'Car Sightings' but here, I will get some expert feedback.

The other day, at the local crusise night there wasa silver BMW M3 SMG 2, not commonly foudn aorudn here. I read aobut it a few months ago and herad it was coming here, but so soon? Is this possible that it is here already?

BTW, a paddle shift M3 looks like sex on wheels, again. :D

Really? I thought they had like the perfect gearbox. Or is it a different problem?

the problems have been occuring when you downshift with SMG2, and people are overrevving their engines, and spinning bearings, throwing rods, and so on.

apparently the computer allowed some downshifts too early and threw it into the next lower gear too soon, mechannically forced a rev past the fuel cutoff, and broke stuff. people have been having entire engines replaced around 5k miles sometimes. its crazy stuff.

a whole lot of documented problems......:(

I know tha the SMG is programed not to allow downshifts that would place the engine into redline. But I alway say it's the drivers responsibility to mane shure he doesnt' shift into the readline. Yes, the computer's programed for that, but that doesn't absolve you of the responsibility to watch your revs. In a standard, you don't have that failsafe feature.
I know my M3 is to limit my ability to downshift into the redline, but I, like the standards in previous cars, will not rely on the car to bail me out of my ineptness.

bottom line is the SMG tranny is the shit. Shifts in 80 miliseconds, only 10 miliseconds slower then and F1 car and twice as fast as 360 Modena. The thing down shifts for ya when its in sports mode, automatically matches at the best rpm. As far as problems go, there hasn't been and big problems w/ it. My dads friend has had one for quite some times, no problems at all w/ the tranny. In the Roundel BMW magazine, there hasn't been any major reports,or in any other big mags. But yeah they are here and yes they are the shit............bottom line :bandit:
