93' Storm Tuneup?

Hi there a Newbie here....

I have a 93' Storm she is a base sohc 1.6L 5spd...I bought her about 3 months ago she was running great until about 2 1/2 weeks ago. When I went to start her she just seemed like she didn't want to stay running so I turned her off I figured she needed a tuneup. So I bought plugs, wires, cap n rotor and recharged my air filter....She started but would not stay running I had to force her to run....Now my timing belt slides right off the cams so could this be my problem. I don't want to change if I don't have to. And the only other thing I know is that when she gets below 1/4 tank in gas you can smell fuel really bad. I haven't replaced the fuel filter yet.
I was wondering if anyone can give me any suggestions on where to start now? This is my third storm and I never had any problems like this before.

Thanks
Angie

the belt sides off the cam? thats bad. check your evap lines just in case. the theory is if they are blocked you could open the fuel cap and gain power. Theory mind you. but i would replace belt tensioner and wa wa pump first because well duh

well I figured out that the timing belt was replaced before and they didn't put a "nut" back on right and my cam is shot from what I was told. If I understand it right I guess the "spindle thing" (????) behind the can is in pieces! SO now I am trying to find a 93' motor b/c I was told I can only use a 93 but have no idea why

nope. any storm, impulse. sohc will bolt right in, reuse your intake and exhaust manifolds just to keep it simple. the injectors aren't interchangable between some models and years, and if it's just a head it's like 2 hours in your garage. assumin the block is OK
