Damn EGR!!

Ok, so I had in the past a Code P0401, which is something like a bad EGR valve. I replace the EGR sensor (with a used one[in good shape]), and still had the code. I then replaced the EGR valve (with a used one[in good shape]). It worked fine! Smooth idle, when I out the car in neutral, the rpms dropped perfeclty... everything was fine. This was a bout a month ago now.
Now, the CEL came on again, and it's the same code. However, the car is idleing fine and everything is acting normal. WTF? I replaced the 2 main components of the EGR system, it runs fine, but Im still getting the error. Any ideas here?

Umm yeah... This can happen to anyone. It's the EGR system, not a blown motor or anything.

Is that the little sensor thing?

If that's it, that's been replaced with a slightly used one also.

Yes it is, and the valve is the silver piece that sits right next to that. What I did to help mine was take the pipe off that runs up to the intake mani and clean it out a bit.

Yeah, I was thinking of that. I dont want to tho. lol. Is there anyway to test the solenoid if it's working right? Maybe I should put my old one back on and see if that works. The problem was the EGR valve before, so maybe the new used one that has a lot of miles on it just sucks. IDK.

Well if it has alot of miles on it then it probably wasn't in the best shape in the first place. Check out how much a new one is and if you don't want to spend all the money on it, I think I have like 3 or 4 laying around here. One of them is pretty damn new and one has less than 70k.

EGR block off time? Will that hurt anything, make it run shitty, or anthing else besides emissions?

It's not worth the effor to try block the EGR, then you'll just have a code ALL the time.

Im not blocking off the EGR. I replaced the solenoid with the original one from the car, not the one I got from another and reset the CEL. The car continued to run great. It was crappy at first, but I think that had something to do with the ECU reset and then the SAFC trying to mod it right away.
I didn't get a CEL with the original solenoid, so who knows. I also forgot I had a little hose going from the solenoid to somewhere at the back of the IM(?) that had a spliter in it. I forget why the one hose was out, but I remember I took it out for a reason. I didn't realize that it was such a strong sucking, so I blocked that off with a screw. Basically, jsut fixed a little open hose. I hope the original solenoid works fine.
