sticky shifter

I have a '97 Trans Am LT1, and a '98 Camaro with an LS1. Both are automatics and on both of them, the stifter sticks BAD when you try to get it out of park if it has been sitting for more than an hour or so. Other F-body owners that I have talked to have this same problem. Anyone know what is causing it, or an easy fix to it. I already thoroughly checked the brake switch to make sure that it is disengaging the shifter lock, and it is working good. It feels like something is sticking either in the shifter itself or on the trans linkage???

Is it just hard to shift from park when you're on an incline, or is it hard to do even if you're on a flat surface?

when ever you park your car to a ramp. after you take your foot off of the brake, the car slips and the tranny hold the car not to slip. so when you try to change gear from park to another gear it is kinda hard because the tranny is engaged and stick to each other and holding the car not to move.. thats why.. that is not problem, that is the way it is..

No, it's all of the time. I can't believe more people haven't responded to this one. I thought it was a very common problem. Every V8 F-Body owner I have talked to in the area I live has the exact same problem, except for a couple of them with very low miles.

l gave you my idea and l am damn sure that is what it is. tranny hold the car not to move and when you try to change gear that happens.. it is like pulling a piece of wood under a huge rock.

got a 95 v8 formula auto.. same problem. At first i thought the previous owner spilled some coke or something in there, as it feels gummy or sticky and seems like the whole console wants to lift up. Tore the center console apart and couldn't find much. all looked properly greased and in fine moving order.

so.

No solution for it here. I think i've kinda just gotten used to havin to push the button in extra hard and pull back a bit harder than usual... my girlfriend jumped in the drivers seat and couldn't get it out of park the other day.. thought she was crazy and then realized it was the sticky shifter she wasnt used to.. :) :)

Same thing happened to me. I let my wife take the Trans Am not thinking about the shifter cause I to have gotten very used to it acting up. She works 40 miles away, and I had to take off work just to go shift it out of park for her!
