Speed sensor for '92 S-10?

Hello,

I seem to be having a problem locating a sensor for my old S-10. According to my mechanic, who has had a heck of a time looking for this part, it is no longer manufactured, and we have no idea where to get one.

I'm looking for a speed sensor. My truck's speedometer will not register properly, and is anywhere from 15-20mph off of actual speed, depending on it's mood; it also will not go faster than ~65mph (45mph on the speedometer) without the transmission shifting wildly up and down. (Also, the 4x4 does not function properly, but we suspect that this sensor may be the cause of that as well.) At this point the vehicle is just sitting idle at my mechanic's, because I cannot drive it back and forth on the interstate with the inability to go above 65, and poor acceleration.

I have the W series engine. It is a 1992 Chevy S-10 Blazer LS, 4x4. Really, all I need is advice or direction on where I could find this stupid sensor; we've been to the dealer, and they were the ones who told us it was a part no longer made.

(I can post later, the actual serial on the part, if needed; I'm just at work right now and the serial is at home.)

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Well, as I said in the original post above:

we've been to the dealer, and they were the ones who told us it was a part no longer made.

You know, you would think that, but, alas, that is not the part my truck takes. It was the first place we tried. Auto Zone doesn't have it, either. Neither do any of the other large auto-parts places. And it's been impossible for me to find on GMC Parts Direct, too. :shakehead

Sorry about not reading all of your first post.
Do you know for sure what transfer case you have? 231/4472
And can you post the part no off of old speed sensor?
Or better yet a picture of it.
I came up with a 8673299 GM OEM no.
It is Unusual for GM not to be able to get a part but a lot of time the no get superceeded.
Sometimes the part no gets changed or lost in crossover..
And last but not least a good salvage yard may be able to get you one.

Try these two links and see if you can open them for a picture.

https://www.mycarquesthomepage.com:8443/acl/?mfgName=CARQUEST/STANDARD%20MOTOR%20PRODUCTS&partNumber=SC89

And here is one that screws in and is what my dealer has and says you need. GM part no 15547452
https://www.mycarquesthomepage.com:8443/images/RIG37055_P01_FRO_1.jpg

Which leds to a question . Does yours screw in or does a bolt and clamo hold it in?

And if you have a carquest or a store that has standard ign parts have the cross reference a gm part no 8673299 should change to carquest no SC89 in standard ign. Picture in link if it will open for you.
