I have a '96 Cavalier and the switch for the speed on the a/c only works on the last two high ones. On the 2 lowers speeds it just turns off. I thought it was the switch itself but I went to the junk yard and pulled a few of them and replaced it and it still does the same. Ant Ideas???

Never mind. I kept reading and I think it is the resistor on the blower motor. Thanks

Hey, I have the same exact problem on my 96 cavalier recently, the fan only works on highest setting. What did you do to fix it? I too thought its a bad switch, but now I won't go ahead and buy one.
So the resistor to the blower blew on yours? That would make sence why only my highest settings works.
Any info would be appreciated, I'm just wondering how hard it would be to get to the blower.

I found it, the blower is located right under the glove box. You just need to remove 2 screws and the panel comes off. The cheapest I can find the resistor is for about $30.

For anyone searching through this thread in the future, the GM part number for this part is 52476725, and I believe it is the same on 95-05 models, so you can probably pull one from a junkyard.

I was going to fix it but I decided I wasnt going to mess with it anymore. I am selling the car and at least it works on high and cold. Thanks for the info on the price though. For sure I am not paying the price for that little resistor.
