The brake lights on my 2001 Oldsmobile Silhoutte are not working. I checked the fuse on the passenger side fuse box and that looks good. I also replaced the Stoplamp Switch by the brake pedal. What else should I check?

A big problem with these vans,(Venture, Silhouette, Montana,) is the "boards" in the back which house the bulbs for the rear lights. There have been reported problems with water getting in there and causing corrosion. The fix is to replace these either by the dealer ,( not sure if a redesigned "board" exists ,) or a salvage yard. Make sure any wire connections are solid and sealed, or soldered, and use a little di-electric grease in the sockets to keep out moisture.

did cleaning / replacing the rear "boards" resolve your problem? I have a 2001 silhouette too with the very same problem. fuse good, third bar break lght works, all other bulbs in the rear "boards" work (both sides), I just have no Hi-side for the stop lamps. Brand new bubls didn't fixt it. the boards looked clean. no dirt or corrosion that I could see. what else?

I have a 1999 and the brake light on the drivers side burns out constantly. The problem seems to be the board or some other component. The bulb itself is fine but the plastic at the base seems to melt and lose contact. Any ideas as to the cause??

ANSWER****** I had same problem after changing bulbs, fuses, brake switch, and flasher fuses, I tested it with a voltage tester and found power going through it. The greasy hard garbage (gunk) where the bulb goes in will not allow the thin wire on the bulb to make contact. ****step1 use a brad nail or small glasses screw driver to chisel the area where the contact is. (do not get crazy JUST the contact if not you will break it).
****step 2 be careful and pull the littlle contact piece out a little ,so that when you put the bulb in it will make contact. *****if yo look closely they have actually flattened in there and are not making contact. NOTE: One of the contacts I had to pull half way contact and bend out the bulb wire out alittle.
This appears to be common because my chevy pickup just had the same problem as the minivan 6mths ago. Both have been trouble free since.
