Engine Questions

I was jsut looking for parts on Summitracing.com and found that there is two engines listed as a "5.0L" one is said to b a 305 and then the other is said to be a 307 is there any difference?

Yes, totally. There are no less than 3 different 5.0 Liter Chevy engines, one is the 302 (three year production in the first-gen Camaro), the 307 and the 305, in that order. The 302 is a 327/350 block with a 283/307 crank. The 307 (Chevy) is a 283 block with a 327 crank, and the 305 is a 350 crank with a 3.736" bore.

The 302 was made from '67-'69, the 307 was made '68-'73, and the 305 was made '76-'03.

Then there is the 307 Olds, which was unfortunately found in several flavors of Chevies. Granted, it is not a SBC, but was OEM in quite a few Chevies. I doubt, however, that Summit is offereing them as replacements. I'm a bit surprized they list even the 307 Chevy. Woof! Woof!

hey now the 307 is a great engine, just not too powerful though.
