K&N filter question

is there such a thing as too much oil on a K&N filter? when i bought my truck it had the K&N intake and the first thing i did was clean it and reoil it. some one told me if you use too much oil your performance and mpgs will suffer. and one have first hand experience?

From what I've read and been told, the answer is a resounding yes. Apparently, if there is too much oil on the K&N, it gets sucked through while the engine is running and can make some sensors not work correctly. I think the main one is the MAF, but somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I think chevy even has a bulletin about it somewhere, so if your under warranty and start having problems, buy a cheapo air filter before you carry it in:grinyes::grinyes::evillol:.

This is why I saved my stock airbox and tube (they're worthless on ebay anyway). Just a few minutes to pull the afermarket and slap it back in if I need to.

I0-4 on the to much oil. Go easy on that stuff. A little dab will do just like the old brillcream add.
If it is a new filter or a heavey oiled filter wash it out and go easy on the oil.
To much oil gets into the maf sensor.
Also get some of the new maf sensor cleaner in the spray can and give the maf sensor a good cleaning and be sure to spray it several times to get a good job on it.
If you have a scanner check the fuel trim readings. If they are off it is a good indication of maf sensor dirty.

10-4 on the parts people and saturday or sunday parts people help is more useless. A person has a lot better chance of getting the right parts on the first of the week. :grinyes: :rofl: :lol:
It total Pee's me off to tell them what I want along with the year make and model and engine and transmission sise and then have to repeat it 2 to 3 times to get it threw there head.
Or tell them I want a new water pump and they issist on giving me a rebuilt one.
CRC makes it in a spray can. Called Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner.
I think some one posted a picture and maybe part no on it.
A search may bring it up.
Also quick dry electrical cleaner or carb cleaner or TBI intake cleaner and some use brake cleaner and Q tips but I perfer just spraying them. The little wire and sensor can break so go easy.

Ohh, I love the parts people. I once went in Advance to buy something for my wifes car. I tell them which car it is and what I need. He looks it up and says, I'm sorry apparently they don't make that car model:banghead::banghead::banghead:. Morons, if it's not in the computer, obviously it doesn't exist. It was a saturn SL2 and the part I was looking was the same as the one for the SL1 so the computer just listed SL.

CRC spray can 05110 part no Mass air flow sensor cleaner.

ok well i got the cleaner and cleaned my maf sensor and i cleaned my K&N and used a little amount of oil this time. lets see if there is a difference!
