I have just picked up a 1974 super beetle convertible. I wasnt aware the super beetle had the macpherson independent front suspension. Im curious as to how the front end is held on? Did they change the frame on the super beetles or is the mounting still there like on the BEAM/TORSION bar set up? and can it be converted back to the beam style?
I am putting air ride in this bug, and I was hoping to have the BEAM style of suspension, for its simplicity of putting air ride on it.
thanx

To convert to a standard front end you need to replace the frame head and the entire front clip.

Does this type of beetle have the ability to seperate the body from the chassis? it almost looks like this is a uni body??

The Super body unbolts pretty much the same way as the Standard. The main difference is you have to unbolt the struts from inside the trunk.
