Tack question

I have a friend who has a 96' F-150, 5-speed with inline 6 4.9L. Neither of us understand why but it doesn’t have a Tachometer, so he wants to put one in, he was wondering at one point these trucks redline. Any help would be much appreciated.

The redline is probably somewhere about 5,000 rpm, maybe 4,500
