126k too much?

I am considering buying a 99 regal gs with 126k on it will it still be reliable at that high of a mileage? and is 5k too much to pay for it?

5K doesn't sound too bad. NADA average retail is around $5900. However, the mileage is classified as high.

As long as the car was properly maintained the mileage should not be a problem or factor as to whether you purchase it or whether it will be reliable. Regals are good for way over that and IMO generally reliable. Like any used car check it out thoroughly and run it through the mill. Carfax it and look for any possible accident damage. Good luck!

Thanks, I bought it today and I love it, it is a great car, it is fast, really luxurious and gets good mileage for having 240 hp and 280 tq.

My dad said that the supercharger has different oil from the regular oil and that I need to look into changing it, is this true? and if so how do I change it?

Congratulations.

Here are a few links to an R&R procedure for the Eaton M90 blower. Just perform the SC oil drain and refill part only. On the snout is a plug (5/16th allen wrench) where you can siphon out the old SC oil with a turkey baster. Use GM supercharger oil only (2 bottles) GM p/n: 12345982.

Also try hard not to get the old SC oil on you. It is very rancid and stinky. Good luck!

I just looked at the bolt to get to the oil and it is completely stripped, any suggestions on how to get it out?

Yeah, I've run into that problem before. We used a a big flat blade screwdriver with wrench assist that just fit with whatever meat was left on the plug. It worked. However, you'll need a new plug which is hard to come by and may be dealer only. I'll see if I can remember the GM part number.

Filler Plug GM part # 24500661 Cost $6.50 list.

I just remembered to ask if anyone has put a smaller pulley on their supercharger?

If so were do I get one from?
What kind of hp and tq increase am I looking at?
Does it affect mileage that much?

Yes, I have one on my GTP. You can get them from 3800Performance.com, ZZPerformance.com or or PFYC.com.

The hp and torque does increase but it depends on the size supercharger pulley. The stock is 3.8". A good street pulley size is 3.4". The sites above will state the approximate hp increase.

Gas mileage will decrease but it depends on how radical the smaller pulley is.

BTW - If you go smaller than 3.4" you will need a re-programmed PCM module. Also, colder spark plugs will be needed to reduce knock retard (KR). Plus you will need the special pulley puller made for getting pulleys on or off an Eaton blower.

The door panel just fell off of my car, and the plastice studs broke, does anyone know if these are special automotive studs or if I can just get them from lowes?

They are special fasteners but Ford and Chrysler use similar ones so pretty much universal in design. I got mine from Autozone so most national auto parts stores should have them. The dealer wants an arm and leg for them. You will need several of them. Good luck!

Thanks, is there anything you do not know?

Also I probably won't be getting around to the stripped bolt and changing my supercharger oil for a while, because I have finals coming up soon.

would you happen to know the part # for the studs that i need?

Also my car didn't come with a manual, could I pick one of those up at a dealer?

What grade of gas am I supposed to put in the supercharged 3800 motor? I know definately not 87, but is 89 ok or do I need 93?

The door panel clips are called Ret. Mldg: GM Part # 20664092.

The best place to get an owner's manual is EBay. Helm, Inc. carries the owner's manuals for GM.

The owner's manual specifies 91 octane or better for the Regal GS Vin "1".

I know a lot of L67 owners that use mid-grade due to the higher cost of fuel now but they install spark plugs that are one range colder.

I use premium.

Thanks,

Also I was wondering what the stock boost on my eaton supercharger is? B/c I have seen my gauge at 10.4, and I thought I saw somewhere that it was a 6 psi supercharger

The stock boost gauges are notorious for being inaccuate. For your typical L67 equipped GM car the Eaton M90 with 3.8" pulley puts out around 7.5 psi boost. I have an Autometer boost gauge installed in my GTP and GS. It taps into the MAP sensor vacuum line and is fairly accurate.

Just got around to going to the dealership today, I gotta wait till monday for the clips and plug to come in. Which is kind of better for me because I have finals tommorow and friday to finish up then I will have a lot of free time to work on fixing that stuff

Also I talked to my cousin about the stripped bolt and he said that he has tool that you put into the bolt and hit it with a hammer and when it gets hit it torques and he said that this works really well for stripped bolts. I should finally get around to changing the oil some time next week.

Just wondering how often the supercharger oil is supposed to be changed?
I thought I saw every 50k somewhere but cannot remember

Actually there is no published interval for changng the SC oil. I believe the owner's manual specifies checking the level and refilling if low at every 30K mile or 50 Kilometer intervals. Just to be safe and possibly extend the life of the supercharger I do mine once a year.

Just wondering if anyone has ever used royal purple motor oil?
I have read good things on it and was just wondering if you thought that it was worth it at almost $7/quart

I finally got the door panel back on, the only hard part was getting the studs on the top to go into the little black strip of trim.

I am going out of town tommorow for four days so I probably won't be getting around to changing the oil until I get back

Sounds good. Keep us posted. That Purple Royal oil is that dino or synthetic? I use Mobil 1 syn.

It is synthetic, royal purple makes Motor oil, differential oil, tranny fluid, power steering fluid, two different lubes and a coolant additive.

I saw a horsepower tv where they changed the motor oil, rear differential oil, tranny fluid and added the coolant additive into a ls1 camaro and it gained 8 hp. The drawback to royal purple though is that it is $7/qt.

Also wondering what you thought about synthetic oil vs. non-synthetic oil, is it worth the extra money?

I believe synthetic is worth the extra expense and excellent oil. I prefer it over dino. Good lubricating qualities and lasts longer. The only word of caution is to make sure your valve cover gaskets and other engine seals are in good shape before switching over.

The Royal Purple sounds like it is in the same category as Amsoil which is good high performance oil.

Good luck in your decision.

I tried to get the stripped bolt out and couldn't. So I took it to my mechanic, he had it out in ten minutes. He also recognized the car, and it was one of his frequent customers who is real meticulous about his cars. The mechanic even printed out all that had been done to it by that shop. So it sounds like it was really well taken care of.

So I drove about two miles through my little town, semi hard driving. Then when I park and get out I notice smoke where the headlights are shining. So I popped the hood and there is a decent amount of smoke coming from the general area around where the dipstick is, I checked my oil level and it is fine. Anybody have some ideas as to what this could be?

A common problem is leaking valve cover gaskets. Check for oil leaks or seepage. When it gets to the exhaust manifold you may see the smoking which is the oil burning off. Also look underneath and check for leaks around the oil pan gasket and rear main seal.

Where excactly is the valve cover gasket? Is is the one that you have to take off to take the engine cover off?

I asked the same question on another forum and a person said something about the valve cover also.

Undo the supercharger cover. The valve covers are located on each bank at the top of each cylinder head and valvetrain. The gray plastic covers. The one up front has the oil filler. The gaskets do not cost much but it is a tedious DIY job that can take a few hours. If the leak is at the front valve cover concentrate on that one first since it is easier than doing the rear. The bracket for the left engine mount must be removed and the igntion coil pack/ICM because it may block the valve cover bolts on the left hand side.

Also, check the condition of the o-ring seals on the oil filler neck and the cap.

I just took off the supercharger cover and there is a lot of oil and crud under it. All of the crud is mainly near the front of the engine. Is this most likely the valve cover gasket?

I would say so. If you see old oil around the area of the spark plugs on the cylinder head then it looks like you'll need the gasket replaced. Good luck!

bnaylor you were correct on the valve cover gasket. The only problem is that it is both the front and the back one.
