1980 rabbit Temp. sensor light won't turn off

Hello,
I just purchased a 1980 vw rabbit diesel C, and the temp sensor light on the dash is always on. I re-placed the sensor, and the light still comes on in the dash. Does anyone know how to fix this?.... - c h a d -
