Oh yeah, who the man? who the man? Im da man. :grinyes:
So last night Im cruising around near my house looking for some grub. Through the mist of traffic a brand spanking new (still had paper plates) red BMW M3 pulls up along my pasenger side and gives me a rev and takes off. the guy was a roider looking late 20s dude and seemed very proud of his Bavarian Motor Werk.
some how a few blocks up I end up next to him, he was on my drivers side this time.
He looks over and smiles, Im thinking "oh yeah, he wants to go....Im gonna loose this one! :disappoin "
I turn off the radio, put up the windows and take off the T/C.
Light goes green and we take off both launching at high 2000's rpms.
we both peel a bit and he gets a nose on me, but all of a sudden before I even redline 1st Im pulling even. Redline comes and I shift but I loose no ground, we are still neck and neck, I keep pulling till Im a nose ahead and I hear him shift but he gains no ground, Im still pulling and now my trunk is at his passenger door. red line comes again and I jamb that stick up to 3rd, boom the car peels and I put him behind my rear bumper.
Im going nutz! Im all liek "WHHHOOOOO, VTEC YO, SHIFT1oNe, this ones for you CASSIES! WHOO :iceslolan "
I couldnt believe it! top of third and I was a full car ahead and still pulling hard.
we had to shut down after that and the guy was so pissed he tailed me for a few blocks. It got a bit scary cause I thought he was gonna pull a gun or something. finally we got to another light and I let him go while I hung a right and got away from that crazy fool
BUT YO I BEAT AN M3! :iceslolan

Nice kill Musashi. What year approx was it? I think the early ones has around 300hp and then after that they were around 338 or so.

Mushi, you seriously need to think about bringing a camera with you inside your car. I'm sick of hearing about these kills without actually seeing it down on vid.... It's just not as exciting to read than it is to see...no what I mean?

Im thinking of ordering a camera mount man, ive seen some nice ones you can just clip to the pillars of the head rest. That should do the trick.

Whatever you do, don't ghetto rig a camera to your dash with duct tape. A friend of mine did that with his 05GT before he took it through and open road course. We went back to his place to watch the tape and it turned out to be a 10 minute video of part of his dash.
Nice kill. Sounds like a pretty good race.

Nice race. A guy that lives by me has one of those, i think its the old one though. Whenever he sees me he always stares, but thats probably because he used to have a stealth too lol. They are nice cars tohugh, good job.

Hate to put a damper on the kill, but theres a break in period on the M3, so if it really was brand new he might have been shifting early to protect the engine. Also, if it was a manual there is a bit of a learning curve to figure out the BMW clutch and if it was SMG many new drivers havn't mastered using it with launch control and S6.
As much as I love my E46 M3, it is hardly an unbeatable car these days. The quickest most people can 1/4 mile them is about 13.3 (although some have claimed as fast as 12.9). A good driver in a LS2 GTO should be a good match for an M3. One must remember, the E46 M3 is in its last year or so of production. It won't be long until we have the E90/E92 M3 with a 400-425 hp V8 and 7-speed SMG.
Good kill, but he woulda had you in the twisties!
Out of curiosity, was it a manual or SMG?

I dunno about an M3 being close to an LS2 powered GTO. You gotta remember that racing a car with over 60hp more then you is gonna cost you, especially from a roll. M3's are great for hitting the twisties, but my personal opinion is that it isn't a driver's race when the difference in the 1/4 mile time of two cars is over 4 tenths of a sec. (Most mags test the M3 to a 13.6 sec. 1/4 mile, and the 05/06 Goat to a 13.2 sec. 1/4 mile).
Then again i've never raced an M3, so I dunno.

13.6 isn't accurate at all for the M3. It really is a 13.3 second car. I hate to use this website because it often isn't accurate, but here is a guy that got a 13.05 with a stock M3 SMG.
http://www.dragtimes.com/BMW-M3-Timeslip-5454.html
A little bit of the 60hp difference is made up in weight, especially if the M3 owner opts out of a sunroof, power seats, navigation, and the bigger wheels. The other thing about SMG M3s is that even a mediocre driver should never make a mistake as long as he understands the transmission. Using launch control and the highest shift setting, every run you make should be 95% perfect. There is no wheelspin and no misshifts with SMG, there is with a full manual.

I go to the track quite often, and can tell you that there are tons of variables when getting track times, which magazines correct for. If that guy posted a 13.05 sec. 1/4 mile i'd ask what the density altitude was that day. If the guy was running at E Town and Sears point he may have better then stock times due to good air, and excellent track prep. I don't see M3's at the track where I go to. I just know quite a few people on here that have smoked M3's, and they don't tend to fabricate their stories.
Cool cars and all, but if you wanna use the best times for cars they have a 12.8 sec. GTO on another forum. Once again i'll cite negative density altitude as being the primary factor.
I don't dig on using other people's internet times because typically their version of stock isn't mine. For instance alot of people consider taking out a Mustang GT's headlight, to gain more air intake, the removal of the air silencer, and advancing timing as being stock. I don't. That's why I typically stick with the Mags times.

Good point. I consider "stock" to be the exact same way the car leaves the showroom floor, with full weight.
But on the other hand mag times aren't always the best either, because they don't always get the most out of it when they test the 0-60/1/4 mile. I was watching a video by motortrend (or someone magazine like that) that said the new Mustang GT's had a 1/4 of 14.0. A full half a second slower than what it is capable of. And a friend of mine was outraged when he found that some car magazine said the 03 Cobra had a 1/4 of 14.5 seconds, while that same magazine said the V6 Accord 6 speed had a 1/4 of 14.5 seconds (I'm not saying that isn't true).

i dont beleive thats true at all, never heard of a magazine being off that bad..ever!!!
very very likely for a gto to kill a m3, more hp and far far more tq and only 200lbs heavier
it all adds up

I remember racing a M3 in the Z28... edged him out fairly easily, but not as fast as I'd like it to be... stupid SMGII tranny being so easy to use... was a service guy test driving the car and we had a little 'go'. hehe
