My 89 240 recently has been giving electrical problems. Some of the problems i have been having are: the clock resets after i hit a bump, after i turn off my car and turn it back on the radio resets same w/ clock, my dome light doesnt turn on but when i put it in the on or off position the clock turns off, when i open and close the door the clock resets. well most of the problems are affecting the clock. i dont know what the problem is :banghead: if someone can please help me. there are no other problems with the dash light or my head and tailights.

sounds like loose connections or shorts in the dash harness. unfortunately theyre not easy to find. have fun with a DVOM and lots of beers.

Can i just buy a used dash harness or will i have to fix it. Also the day before i started having problems with the clock, my freind cut the wire to the light in the back when you open the hatch. Couldnt disconect it so he just cut the wire, could that have caused the problem. Thanks for the reply.

sounds like you shorted a few wires under dash/fuse area. sounds like alot of fun.. lol and i would think a new dash harness would fix it. or if you could even look to see the clock wiring. cause there is a sure problem with that wiring. prolly melted to a few others or so. i dunno

if that wire he cut is grounding out, it could cause it. try wrapping the wire ends up well with electrical tape and see if it fixes it. but even if its in your dash harness, finding a new harness will be hard as it is, plus ripping the old one out will be suuuch a pain also. but i guess a bit easier than ohming miles of harness wire.

I already wrapped it with tape but nothing happend. I guess i am just going to drive without a clock. Its just a beater car that i got for 500, soon as i get a job this summer and save enough cash i'll buy a better 240. Thanks for the help.

yea you dont need a clock. Replacing that would be such a freaking pain in the ass for just wanting to know the time. Just use the cell phone. Or be "og" and look at the sun. lol
