Castrol GTX 10W-30 Is probably the best standard motor oil you can buy.

Mobil One & Amsoil Are the best synthetic motor oils you can buy.

There is an oil analysis spread sheet available on www.maxima.org which has some very good information on motor oils analysed after being in use for 3,000+ miles. You can clearly see which ones break down and which ones still protect your engine.

Hey NJMAX,

What kinda oil you use? I am thinking of putting synthetic in mine. I have 47,800 Miles on my 99 SE. Right now I use 10w30 with the BGMOA additive.... is that Sh#& Bad for my engine? Thanks!

Yo!

I use Fuchs Super GT, I contacted my deal and they recommended this oil for the Maxima, I've also seen a Maxima with a Fuchs logo on it, and it was the Nissan Dealer's car.

I'm using the Amsoil 10W-30 Synthetic Oil with Amsoil Filter. I only change it once a year, the filter gets changed at the 6 month interval. My yearly mileage is around 15 - 18 K. Amsoil says the oil can go up to 25K so I'm well within specs.

I've got 50K on my car so far. Runs fantastic and believe it or not, the inside of my engine is very clean!

Amsoil is excellent stuff!

you can't change your oil once a year and your filter every 6 months. you have to drain all the oil out of the pan just to take the filter off.

I use mobil one and will forever.
it's so good they recommend not using it in your new car until after the 500 mile break My friend just spent 15k restoring a 1986 buick grand national and happened to mention mobil one and the guy made it a point to let him know that the engine won't properly break in because it's so protective of your engine. My friend also works at the mobil Oil change express so he has access to any oil and chooses mobil.
P.S.

I still change my oil every 3k miles
No oil can last a whole year unless you put 60 miles a week on your car.

Not true! Only the oil in the filter comes out. The oil filter DOES NOT sit in the oil pan, it's in series with the oil pump and main oil channel. If the pump isn't pumping, no oil comes out! Pretty simple to figure out. When you unscrew the filter, about 1/4 of a quart will dribble out, thats it.

Mobil One is EXCELLENT oil! Keep using it. But you are changing it to often. Not that that's a bad thing. Just a waste of $$$.

Again, untrue. Do some research before you make a statement like that. Amsoil synthetic motor oil is good for ONE YEAR OR 25,000 MILES.
Prof is available for your reading pleasure. Check the Amsoil Web Site or the Oil Analysis by Black Stone Labs. (An independent fluid analysis labratory) The spread sheet with the results of various oils tested at various mileage intervals in our engines is available at www.maxima.org We've been collecting this data for a few years now.

you're right my mistake. only canister filters will dump all the oil. What i'm saying is if you tell someone 3000 miles they'll go to 5 you say 25 ,000 they'll go 30. I will never ever ever ever go more than 1000 over. got too much repsect for my car.

BMW did a simialr test on oils. they changed the oil every 75,000 miles and said at least 75% of the car parts would still pass inspection for manufacturers warranty with mobil one.

If you went to a porsche, ferrari, or mecedes dealer look under the hood on the oil filler cap. It says USE ONLY MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC OIL. hey will void the warranty if you use any other

Guys,

I have 47,890 Miles on my car. Would it be ok to change over now? I thought that it would cause leaks????

Thanks in advance

Synthetic oil does not cause oil leaks. I changed mine over at 43K. Do a flush before you change over. Amsoil offers engine flush which is compatable with their synthetic oils. It's a good idea to flush your motor so its nice and clean for the new oil.

I will do, my next change is due at 48,900. I should use the AMSOIL flush, or should I take it to the dealer. They offer a BG Engine Flush. I think that it's the same process as an tranny oil flush, but they do that to the engine??? Also I heard that they might use water to do the flushing!??? What's good for that?

i changed over at 113,000 miles. you don't need an engine flush. mobil one oil has deteregents in it that will break down the old oil. by the 3rd change it'll be all gone
