ok my first post, so be nice,

99 tahoe, 2dr 4x4 auto, floor shift for 4wheel dr. Installed a 3" body lift today went well we thought. now the truck won't shift out of park, my first thought was cable out of adjustment.disconnected the cable, I can shift at the transmission with the lever, the colum shifter will not move even with the cable disconnected at the trans, I disconnected the lever at the side where the shift cable attaches to the colum as a friend suggested, still won't shift. help-- looked for some mysterious little white button that is supposed to adjust the cable, still haven't found it yet. need photos , or lots of words---help please!

There's a small solenoid way up on steering column, only allows shifting out of PArk when foot brake is depressed. There's a white (I think) locking tab, which after you remove will allow you to disconnect the wire, disabling the interlock.
Had this happen on my 97 Tahoe. First try stomping several times on brake pedal to see if it will actuate the switch - if not try the above. Mine is still disconnected several years later.

The small white plastic plug is on the cable end right next to where it connects to the trans lever. It is pushed out to one side, and this permits you to slide the cable end to adjust to a new notch in the serrated end. I'm sur ehtat is not your problewm though...

If it is the brake interlock, you can temporarily get by that by turning the key far enough ahead just to unlock the column. Then you can shift to Neutral, and start the vehicle there. (I did this on many occcaisions with my GMC van...) The interlock does not get power until you trun the key all the way to the run position. Good luck! :)
