Hi guys, thks for looking at my work in progress & all your supports.
Reli fall in lov with this car after viewing hot version video in which the amemiya RX7 competed against 'Luck' rally tuned WRX in a touge battle. Used to be a skyline fan. But after viewing, this RX7 reli blow off my mind!
Hopefully can do my best to make this model to be half as good as HIROBOY & all the other expert. I would reli appreciated if all of you would give your precious comments on how I could improved on it. Thks.
Sorry abt the long story. Anyway, here are some progress pics.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i134/rainterlude/amemiya%20rx7/P1010428.jpg
Have primed the body & done up the headlights. Realise that the surface, especially at area which are puttied and sanded are not as smooth as expected. Area are filled with pit holes. How am I going to make it as smooth as the rest of the body? being using tamiya basic putty as the top coat.

Here is the modified hoods. Just added a inlet vent using 0.3mm sheet.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i134/rainterlude/amemiya%20rx7/P1010422.jpg
Here is the car interior. Will changed the back compartment.
I will try my best to post update every week. Will be a slow progress.

hi everyone, return with some more progress.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i134/rainterlude/amemiya%20rx7/P1010436.jpg
have sand the headlight section & redone the air inlet area(should look more proportional now) hood section is almost done up, less for a bit of sanding touch-up.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i134/rainterlude/amemiya%20rx7/P1010438.jpg
have redone the end section of the side body kit. Rims & brake are from toyota corolla WRC. Wanted to get the RP-F1 rims, but have heard that the rims look like 16 inch instead of the 17 inch.

This is the pic i based my model on. What color is body color. Which tamiya color comes closest to the body color? TS-10 French Blue; TS-23 Light Blue; TS-54 Light Metallic Blue?

Nice work. The putty work is coming a long well, so far. I'd go with light blue, I think French blue is a little too rich for that car.

I'd agree with the ts-23 light blue... the paint doesn't look metallic in that pic, and french blue would be rich.

Hi all,
Just a little progress. This modification is draining me quite a bit. :disappoin One thing I cannot get it right is the putty work.
After applying the tamiya basic putty, have to sand from grade 600 to 1000 sandpaper.
The result is a lot of pit hole at the area. :banghead:
Can anyone give any advice?:crying:
Have done up the rear wing using the "mustang GTR" guy methods.
WOW! work quite well for me.
Have done up 3 wings for this kit, but nothing come quite as close.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i134/rainterlude/amemiya%20rx7/P1010453.jpg
A closer look.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i134/rainterlude/amemiya%20rx7/P1010454.jpg
Does the wing look okay????
Have to rework the foglight as it seems not up tp grade.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i134/rainterlude/amemiya%20rx7/P1010479.jpg
This is what i been refering above. Could not get it to be as smooth as i want.

Have done up the basic shape of the front diffuser. Will be some time before i start on it.

Yep its a lot of sanding and a bunch of time  but it can pay off. You're work is coming out nicely, the hood looks great, almost like it was just a factory part with just a coat of primer on it.
I might recomend after you get all your putty work really looking good and sanded best you can with basic to let it air out for a little while to allow it to really dry and then hit it with a good coat of a good building primer and then wet sand that nice n smooth. That should fill in the little pin holes. Then with a coat of sealer like zinser bin to help well...seal it and help prevent as much shrinking as you can, before applieing paint.
BTW IMO for some of your next serious scratchbuilding projects id try to steer clear from the basic and other 1 part putties. because they tend to shrink a lot and that not only can affect paint but you cant put a lot on at a time you have to do a hundred little spots and layers,(as im sure you know :shakehead ) So try and do big work and scratch stuff with some types of two parts i.e. polyester and epoxy putty. you can hit up the great how to on this by GTmike400 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=540133
Keep on sanding and keep up the great work! :)

doing great so far!
i actually use a local epoxyclay for wood applications when scratchbuilding major parts. workable for 15mins, and sands great, and usually doesn't even need major sanding afterwards. easily carveable as well. :D

:grinyes: Thank you WRC_413X & nugundam93 for the advices. Appreciate it a lot.
I was using a industrial based poly putty for the some of the beginning work.
The modificated front end of the body is mainly done with it. But I realize
that I could not get a very smooth surface with it.
Thus the basic putty(tamiya) was used to smoothened it out by spreading it out over the area affect.
From what i read, the one part putty will affect the paint job. :banghead: I have some quries in mind.
1) Could i apply tamiya epoxy putty over the area where basic putty was initially used?
2) How long do I have to air the basic putty? & do I immediately apply the sealer after applying it.
3) what is the industrial name for the sealer?
(believe that most hobby shop do not stock them. may have to try my luck at the DIY shop).
Will heed all your kind advices when OOb my next kit(maybe amuse s2000 or z-tune).
Thank you so much.

Thanks,
1-Applying the epoxy putty over the tamiya basic and that other putty should be no problem because it will create its own hardened shell and it should prevent anything underneith it from shrinking . I wouldnt put the epoxy putty over everyplace that you have the basic especially if it is about finished and smooth because it will make it larger and mess up the scale. probably just on the areas that are still rough or unfinished.
2- As far as airing goes id let it "fully" dry for about 2-3 days, then if you have to do any sanding before sealing it. you want to have all your bodywork don before putting a coat of sealer on it because the next step will be priming and painting.
3-A fairly popular sealer that is available is called Zinser bin its available at most places like home depot, but being in singapore im not sure what kindof places you have available. id suggest looking around at some local diy stores like you said or even finding some fellow singapore modelers on af for more specific advice. And then theres the internet...lol
good luck its coming out good so far!

since i don't have any to add except for #3...
if you have Krylon fusion or Krylon Satin in your local hardware shop, they're good as primer, and it's stated in the can that they're safe for plastics. they're easily sandable as well, another bonus. :D

Hi
thanks for the comment M-tuning & WRX 413X, i will take note of it.
For the Toyota lug wheel, this is only the spare wheel I have in my collection. Perviously have wanted to get the enkei RP-F1 wheel, but the hobby shop owner advised me that the fujimi rims look much more like 16 inch then 17 inch rim. What does lug wheel means???
As for the muffler, I might redo it using the orginal kit, but getting to shape like the original RE Amemiya dolphin exhaust have been quite unsucessful. Maybe I'll just attached the alu pipe on it.
