2000 battery cables

Battery died this weekend. When replacing it I noticed the Negative cable has a crack in the terminal end. I can get both cables for $8 for the ends only. They are about 12" long each (or about that) and then connect to the rest of the cable at a crimped on connector.

I've not started this project yet. Do I need a special tool to un-crimp the existing ends to remove them and then crimp the new ones back on or will the old-fashioned screwdriver and pliers do the trick?
