clearing system to add a new remote, 00 Avalon

How do i clear the system so i can add a new remote. Not sure how many remotes have been programmed to the car but the new ones will not accept the programming. I am using the same procedure as is listed on this web site, it worked when i programmed the last remote about 8 months ago, but will not work now.....HELP
