I do not have the flex fuel engine in my 96 taurus 3.0, does anyone know if i can swap that out for one that is flex fuel, will it bolt up to the transmission, just a possible option for me to consider, please lend your knowledge on this

It will most likely bolt up if you already have a Non-Flex Vulcan but the cost is stupid and it wont save you any money running ethenol.

There is a lot more than just swapping the engine. 1st, the gasoline fuel pump will not handle the Ethanol. 2nd, there has to be a flex fuel sensor setup in the vehicle. 3rd, the PCM needs to be changed to accomadate the Ethanol. This is just the start. As brokenantimatter said, it is probably not worth it. You ay buy the Ethanol for less, but you will drop about 15 to 20 percent in fuel mileage.

ethanol is slightly corrosive and melts plastic fuellines and rubber fuellines. so these are what are beefed up fronm the ffv vulcan and the regular vulcan.
also if the 8th digit in the vin is a 1 or a 2 you have a ffv vulcan i think. if it is a u is is a regular vulcan
if it is an alternative fuel then cross your fingers and hope for this

Yes - the flex fuel engine will bolt up to your transmission.
But, to run ethanol you have to switch over the whole fuel system. Not really practical.

You know a gasoline alternative has been developed it currently being tested and used in industrial applications. But like all new technologies the initial investment costs while most likely cause the market for it to fall through.

FYI: This morning on TV I saw they're having a special on Ethanol at 7:PM EST. One of the major networks but don't remember which one. I agree with my forum friends, the cost to convert and loss of mileage wouldn't be cost effective in gas savings.
