Brake Light Replacement, 92 4Runner SRS

What is the best way to replace the factory-sealed brake lights on a 92 SRS? I tried going in through the tirejack compartment, just behind the wheel-well, but that compartment is cased in by plastic.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Are there any screws visible from the exterior holding the lens (or assembly) to the truck?

There are two hex head bolts on the door jam of the tailgate.
Once you open the tailgate there are exposed.

I have a 94 4runner and when you undo those 2 screws for ther brake light becareful and swing the brake light assembly outward away from you because there are 2 metal clips that hold the assembly in place once you remove the 2 screws. At least thats the way it is on my 94 runner , carefully swing out the brake light assembly and swivel it out as far as possible and you will see the 2 clips I'm talking about, then just lift the assembly over those 2 clips and your home free.
You Mat NOT NEED to do all of this if you can reach and get the socket for the bulb removed just by taking out the 2 screws but if that doesn't work for you, try what I mentioned, it takes the whole assembly completely off of the truck and is only held by the wires.
Good Luck I hope it works out for you. OzzyO

Dear OzzyO, KimMG, and 4Wheel --

Thanks for the help. There was indeed two hex bolts in the jamb of the tailgate, and this opened the taillight easily. Problem solved.

Thank again, folks.

Best,
Jacob
