Fuel Filter - where, how, and why?

Need to know:
I have replaced the spark plugs, the distributor cap+rotor, the wires, there's a new battery and I just changed the oil and filter.

Symptoms:
I started the car, it has no exhaust except for the converter and intake manifold. It ran and then died. Now, immediately after, I can't start it. I hear the engine trying but no go. Also, before I changed the oil, I gave it some gas and the tach needle didn't move.

Solution:
My dad suggested that the fuel filter is clogging and that's why it won't start. If so, where is the fuel filter?? If not, what's your take? This is serious, I need this car to RUN to pass inspection...:banghead:

fuel filter is an easy deal. 6 bucks down at the parts store. Get under the car and follow your fuel lines back to the gas tank and you cant miss it. Just relieve fuel pressure first or youll get gas everywhere. Its just a little can that goes inline with the fuel lines. And yeah it could be plugged so it doesnt hurt to try that out if you havent yet. Also have you checked your timing and all?

It should be in front of the rear axle on the driver's side. Not too bad to get to, you should be able to reach under and turn the nuts. Be careful, make sure you don't round them off.

Quick question, how in the hairy balls of monkeytown does an engine start and run without a intake manifold?

No, Wright, it HAS the intake manifold it doesnt have the rest of the exhaust aside from the converter too

I'm confused on how the intake manifold gets in the picture here :dunno:

You know, I am as well, but it is in the picture and we must accept it for the confusing part that it is.

I believe he meant exhaust manifold and cat, instead typed intake manifold.

Most lielky, it just made for a weird mental image, a motor running with no intake manifold. :lol2:

oops, now i'm confused, I want to say 'Headers' but it's really the exhaust manifold, sorry.

has exhaust manifold/stock headers and the cat, then the rest is sawed off. I'm replacing the fuel filter today, using Purolator.

The fuel filter is naturally welded to one side of the fuel lines and I'm doing by best to not break the fuel line, but for some reason, one side of the fuel filter was loose, while the other side needs a frickin breaker bar!! All this needs is brute force and I'm spent.

That's how it usually goes, I find the output side always comes loose like it should at the fitting, and the input side won't budge.

Put a backup wrench on the line, and turn the filter to remove, forget about trying to break the line free.
