Best Oil?

Sorry if this is a repeated post...I looked around but couldn't find one before posted about this simple question.

What's the best type of oil to use for my GSX?? I now have 108,500 miles on it, all highway miles, just a tial BOV and a k&n filter, but it's been ticken and knockin a lot more lately..and louder..oil level is fine too and only 2,000 miles into the oil change (10w30). So I was just wondering what best high mileage oil is the best for GSXs. Maybe if I put a better one in there, it will stop some of the sounds??

Thanks

I always use mobil 1 10w30. What do you mean by knockin exactly? Ticks are just your valves. No biggie, thats a dsm sound. For that you could try during your next oil some Lucas oil. Help thickin things up and MAYBE lower the tick sound. Cheaper than replacing them.

What brand oil you use now? is it synthetic?

You need to search a bit better, I made a topic on this once. Most people use Mobil 1. Royal Purple is expensive as hell, but its good stuff, also Amsoil is the other really good stuff.

and got cw, Just stick with mobil 1, is this the first time you run sysn oil ? swith from regular oil to sysn oil that late will cause leak.

First off i didn't get CW, secondly the type of oil you run doesn't have anything to do with whether your motor will CW or not.

also synthetic oils don't "cause" leaks, they can expose leaks that you already had becuase the oil doesn't thicken and it actually cleans the motor of all the deposits that regular oil left behind.

I guess I knew what type of oil I used wouldn't prevent CW or anything...I just didn't know if it would help "prevent" the knocking. It got louder all of a sudden...I thought that the oil pressure from going faster etc. straightens out the valve and keeps it from knockin on the head or whatever it hits against..

I guess I'l go with Mobile 1:rolleyes:

It's called lifter tick, and no it's not hurting your motor. Just annoying is all. Choosing a different brand/type of oil will do little for that problem, the only real fix is to upgrade to the 3g lifters (not 3rd gen eclipse).

I think slowboy sells a set of revised lifters for $150. That will solve the problem of lifter tick. I use mobile 1 only. (the engine break-in is going to cost me some $$)

you shouldn't break a new engine in on synthetic oils, they dont perform as well for this as a petroleum base does. after the motor is broken in, swap to synthetic. I read that on Amsoils website, and they only sell synthetic.;)

I believe it's because synthetics don't allow the friction it takes to seat certain engine parts.. My theory anyway.

First of all, check your oil pressure with a guage. Low pressure indicates worn bearings, pump, or possibly a collapsed filter even. If it's a bottom end knock, you've got a worn main or rod bearing, depending on how much damage has been done, may only require a bottom end bearing change, or a crank and bearing kit if the damage is severe .

As for the oil question, I prefer Royal Purple, with Mobil 1 synthetic and Castrol Syntec a close second.
