Onorthodox pulley set

The advertisements says the set will give you 40 hp, and 50 ft or torque per something..... Seems like a lot to me. Does anybody have the set? If so is it that big a difference? How much was the install? Any and all info would be appreciated.

:silly2:

The two pulley set will free up about 6bhp, whereas the four pulley set will give you about 8bhp.

40bhp is being just a little optimistic

i think the 4 pulley set gives more like 16 theres no way i could see 40 horsepower my friend has a 3000gt and got 30 i think but its a lot stronger car then the g's if you have a car audio system dont change your altenator pulley or you car audio will suffer

No, the 4 pulley set only nets 7-8 hp, per controlled dyno tests by Mike Kojima. The 2 pulley set nets around 6 as has been previously stated.

There are cars that will gain 30+ hp, but not the SR20. It doesn't have as much to do with how strong the engine, but rather how much mass the pulleys have and how much drag they inflict on the engine (speaking of stock of course).

Apparently the underdrive pulleys really help turbo charged cars. Just like a lightened flywheel. Just be careful when ever you see 'up to' claims. You won't get massive hp out of them but they are a nice little mod. :)

George - which pulley set did you use on your DET and where did you pick it up - as per your recommendation I've ordered a lightened flywheel for my turbo project and I know you said the pulleys were another great bang for the buck mod - the car has no AC (Real man's car hehehe) but I'd like to keep the alternator going pretty well because of a planned audio system... Will I be ok since there is no AC compressor to power? Since the belt will be shorter the alternator will be spinning at more RPM's anyways? Or am I thinking wrong.
Thanks
Chris
Looking for advice from the guy's with experience :-P

I bought mine from Courtesy Nissan 2 years ago. Actually I bought another set from them 3 years ago too. :-) I have the 2 pulley kit. The 4 pulley kit just doens't seem worth the time or money.

As for effect on an audio system, I only have two in my car......

The exhaust....

And the screaming passenger. :D

Here is a question - how much of a PITA are they to install without removing the engine? Are the any install guides on the web - I couldn't see any on SE-R.net....

I am looking into getting a set you see, but I need to work out if it is worth it once I factor in shipping to the UK, and fitting costs.

It took me an hour on my P10. That is start (wheels on ground) to finish (wheels on ground). There is a trick to doing the water pump pulley, but it's not that hard. I'll try to remember to write it up later when I have more time.
