Clutch Replacement ?

how difficult is it to replace a clutch for an 02 3.8 and what tools would you need ? rate difficulty 1-10 for someones whos not a mechanic.

Usually, taking a trans out is not that hard, but it my be best to do some research on it. On a scale from 1-10, I'd rate it close to a 7 just for the work involved. You will need a socket and ratchet set obviously, jack and jackstands/car ramps, a clutch alignment tool for your specific vehicle and trans., some pry bars, breaker bar, and few others. Now some of these tools are just for if things do not come out easy.

The number 1 tool you will need is a repair manual. Read through the steps while looking at your car. Become familiar with every bolt you can before loosening anything. Overall the difficult part about the job I find is that it is awkward to do without a lift. While the transmission is out check the clutch fork mounting to make sure the pivot is not oblong. Check the transmission mount. Check the u-joints for wear.
