Hi. I'm new to this forum... I have a question and have no idea where to go to get an upfront answer. There is some paint corroding on the trunk of my '05 Elantra and the serviceman is stating it's from bird poop. I've never heard of bird poop corroding paint before and wanted to find out if I'm being fed a load of poop (no pun intended) or if this is a legitimate issue that happens.
Any feedback would be AWESOME... Thanks!

It is possible. Bird poop contains acids. So, if you leave it on the car long enough it can cause paint damage. It's a good idea to clean it off as soon as you can if you notice some on there.
Now, if you have never noticed any on your trunk, it could be caused by something else.

that sux; guess the quality of the paint/clearcoat of these vehicles arent up to par...
i leave bird poop on my old nissan all the time; it doesn't create a rust spot! this 1989 factory paint job has lost most of it's clearcoat as well...

Personally I've never had it cause a problem on either one of my Hyundais. It would probably have to sit on there for a long time, but I have heard of it causing problems.
