Monsters???

Do any AFer's have some kind of mythical creature living around them? I just saw Mothman Prophecies and I wanted to know more. While surfing, I discovered there is some unknown creature called Chessie in the Chesapeake Bay area.

I know the kiwis used to have the Giant Squid, but that has been proven to be true, so........anyone have something like that around?

This will probably cause this thread to move to philosphizing, but do you believe in the stuff?

No, we don’t have anything like that around Auckland (not that I know of anyway). I believe that the Loch Ness Monster could exist. The water is so deep that it’s quite possible it lives under there somewhere.

There is a mythical beast in N.Z.,a fierce and mighty creature that sneaks up behind its prey and growls ferociously.Interestingly,it makes no attempt to attack,it prefers simply to scare the crap out of its prey then move to a new target...found mainly in the primitive wastelands of West Auckland,ladies and gentlemen I give you..

We have tourists (also known as Fudgies). Much worse then any mythological terror you can imagine.

First off: Mothman Prophecies ownz j00. Oh, and the "Avalon Hotel" is not in West *by God* Virginia, but rather about 20 mins from my doorstep! Yes, it is located in Dunningsville, PA and I have driven past it MANY times.

Next: Well, it's not a creature, but my area has "Hatchet Jack" who killed his whole family with a hatchet and then buried them in the back yard... and it is a true story. He was arrested, did his jail time, and moved back into the area until his death.

Then there is the wonder that is the Monongahela River... No one is really quite sure just what nastiness is in that water, but it sure is FUGLY looking water! :eek:

I can't think of any others, but I'm sure that there are some. Pittsburgh, PA is a good old blue-collar town, so it has a lot of personality that way.

What we call "Monsters" are most likely creatures we simply aren't familiar with yet.
The Pacific ocean gets as far as 7 miles deep, but Humanity can only go down a few minles in our Strongest diving machine- so what resides in that (so far) unattainable area?
As for land, We know for a fact there are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of miles of caverns under the earths surface, most of which is completely inhospitable to humans (too dark, to wet, to "uncomfortable," to steep...), so who knows what could live down there? as for me, my small town has repeated myths of some sort of "six legged creature" Urban legend? popular consensus. me? I ain't so sure.

The Avalon Motel is the place where Richard Gere stays in the movie Mothman Prophecies. I also may as well mention that when he goes to "Chicago" the footage was filmed in Pittsburgh. I just want to make it look like I'm all special b/c I have ties to a movie... :p

UK has hundreds of monsters. ther nearest one to me is the "bar hill pig". no thats not a made up name either. it is an oversized pig that was killed years ago on a place called bar hill (duh) and now legeand says the pig will chase anyone who walks over the hill at night. although i know plenty of people who have walked there at night and survived. me personally, i wouldnt go near the bloody place unless i had a small army with me
