According to the mechanic my spark plug module keep going bad. Had it replaced 2 times withing the last 60 days. After replacing it, the car would run fine for about a month, than it would cut off while driving and not start up again until the module is replaced. Could this be because I'm using 97 grade fuel? Can someone please help!

Ignition module? If so either repeat bad parts or wiring harness problems to ICM, or misdiagnosis.

Thanks, I think you hit the problem head on. Took the car to the GM dealer and they put the car on their diagnostic machine and got code# 1626 which suppose to be theft detection alert; and also code B2722 which indicated that I had a short circut on the cylinder. They said that the problem will be solved if they change the ignition. The down side it cost me $575. Could'nt they just have disconected the alarm or something ? They said thatthe car will be ready Tuesday 5/30/06. I have my fingers crossed and hope they have thier diagnosis right.

What year Regal to include model and engine size?
Both error codes are Passkey anti-theft deterrent codes and have nothing to do with the ignition control module which helps generate spark.
P1626 is Anti-Theft Deterrent System Fuel Enable Circuit. It means you have either a bad key, key cylinder, ignition switch, wiring, body control module or powertrain control module.
Since B2722 shows it is a key cylinder problem so it sounds like the key cylinder is bad. The key cylinder is coded with a certain resistance value along wth the key and sends a code to the anti-theft deterrent portion of the body control module. If it fails then it disables the starter and fuel pump and sets the DTC error codes. If it passes you get engine turnover and ignition. This part is located in the steering column and part of the ignition switch. I would not be surprised to see the dealer change out the ignition switch and harness assembly just to be sure. $500 is about right if it includes all parts.

thanks for the reply, learning on the fly may get expensive thanks for offering insight! I have a 98 Buick Regal 3.8L. Where do I find the info to translate the codes?

You are welcome. Checkout the link below. It covers the resistance values for Passkey systems and bypass. The '98 has Passkey II. Good luck!
