Car Dies But Starts Right Back Up?

Wondering if anyone has any insight before I take this thing in to the shop. Driving to work today, sat in 2 hours of bumper to bumper traffic. Get off the highway and am doing about 30 down a side road. Engine dies - still have all power, radio still playing, heat still going but no engine. Pull to the side. Turn ignition off, restart and it starts right back up. Travel the last 1 mile to work. Any ideas what this could be? It has never done this before. Does sound like it is running a little rough, but heck it always has and no one has ever been able to find a problem. Oh and the car is a 99 Leganza, about 107k miles. On it's SECOND engine after the first one puked at 60,201 miles. Help! ? :)

My niece had experience the same problem several times. Same year same model about the same miles. I asked around without any good answer. It looks like she had the same dring pattern as you did.

I would guess that the computer on board is shutting itself down for it was not able to process the kind of driving pattern. Turning off and on the power results in rebooting the computer and everything get back to normal.

Please let me know if it happened again?

Thaniks,
John

It actually WAS the computer.. :) We took it several places before breaking down and taking it to the dealer...:banghead: They diagnosed it as the computer, $1,500 to replace. Instead, we turned it in and bought a new car.. LOL

Thank you so much for replying my message.
I am amazed by my judgement. I was right.
The bad news is that my niece need to spend big bucks to take care of this.

Hi Amy,

Please allow me to clarify what "break down" meant.
Did you mean it does not start at all and you need a tow?

Thanks,
