'91 Ranger no spark

Hi, a friend can't get his '91 Ranger 2wd 3.0/2.9 started. He doesn't have spark, changed the dist., cap, rotor, plugs/wires, and coil. It's got power to the coil on ignition and the distributor spins. We figured we'd check the module next, but we can't seem to locate it. Does anyone have any information or pics of the location? Thanks.

Big difference between the 2.9L and 3.0L. 2.9L should state "2.9L Electronic Fuel Injection" right on top of the intake. It also has a distinctive upper intake manifold with 3 runners. I am not certain about the 3.0L, they did make a 2.9L Ranger in 91. The 2.9L TFI module is located on the back of the distributor. Have you attempted to pull codes to verify that the ECC is working properly?

I never checked codes, but supposedly someone else did, and there weren't any. I just looked at it for the first time yesterday. I'm 99% sure its the 3.0. The diagram on the shroud shows the ignition module remotely located, I wasn't sure what I was looking for. I looked up pics on Napaonline, this morning, but I don't remember seeing it anywhere. Looking for a direction to start my search.

You might try looking in the maintenance section of the AutoZone website. (I'm doing some work on a 2.9.) The AutoZone website covers both engines rather nicely ... showing some simple tests for both ignition setups.

I checked out the site, it claims it mounts on the dist. I'll check into it as soon as I get home. Thanks 12Ounce. I've been on autozone's site before, but I wasn't aware of the maintenance section of it. There's a ton of info there.

Found the module, mounted drivers side of the radiator, inside a finned cooler. Still no spark though. Anyone have any other ideas?

Sounds like you may have the wrong animal there. The ignition module on the 2.9 is mounted on the distributor. Post an engineering # off the part you have and I'll see if I can cross it. MM.

This is a 3.0, and we had it checked out and it was good and it was a twin to the one O'Reilly's gave us to put in its place.
