Okay guys, I'm in need of some tires so I'm thinking that when I change out my shocks this summer, I'll just put on new tires and get my car aligned all at once. Anyways, I need help choosing tires as I have no idea what brands are good and which ones are not. I did a search but everyone who asked questions about their tires already had an idea of what they wanted already. Right now, I'm running Falkens but I don't know if I should just stick with them or something else. They don't have to be top of the line because I'm planning to get some rims in the future but I would like them to be good nonetheless. So yeah, any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks dudes! :)

I've heard great things about the Falkens so you may want to stick with those. I have Kuhmo Ecsta's and I love them. They have worked great for me and I've only heard good things about them. I don't know if your going to be driving in any snow but if you are I would reccomend Bridgestone Turanzas. Although those are not cheap (the turanzas).

^Falkens PWN. They're really nice. If you really wanna go all out performance slade, you could get some Nitto 555R (I think that's the model), but it wouldn't be very practical at all. I say stick with the falkens.

Kuhmo Ecstas are good bang for the buck but have a very low tread wear rating.

my Yokohama Avid V4S's have a great tread wear rating...but with all the hard-cornering and swinging the rear end out that i do, mine have worn down quite a bit. but when i get new tires, i think i'll stick with the Yokohamas.

Firestone Firehawks are good as well. I've looked into the Khumo's as they have a really good price to them.

I have the Khumos on my 93 RT and they are excellent in the rain. Almost like driving on dry pavement. They are also pretty sticky when cornering and give a good warning if they want to brake loose. They tend to flat spot if they sit for a week or so, but that goes away after a few miles. I've heard Khumos are terrible in the snow, but my car has only been in the snow once in 13 years.

Performance tire = not meant for snow. When winter comes if you drive your car all year round have a set of winter treads on hand.

That is what I'm doing. Pretty soon (next 6 months hopefully) I'm getting ecstas all the way around and keeping my Turanzas for winter (even though they still arent a winter tire) on the front wheels. The backs will stay with the Kumhos all year round (even though the back end gets a little crazy on me in the snow).

Bad idea. You still want your rears to have some traction. I had Kuhmos on the back end of my car with some decent ones on front. I entered a corner too fast and the ass end swung around on me. I dont know how but I saved it. Next day I put better tires on the rear and never had an issue again.

Yeah, I've thought about it. I know you saw those pics I posted in the OT thread of all the snow we got so I had already driven with them on the back end for one winter and it did get a little hairy around turns. Mabye I'll just pick up some slightly use winter tires for the back that I can hopefully pick up for around $60 or so. I think whats almost just as bad is my damn car gets stuck on the snow because its so stinking low to the ground.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the replies. We don't get snow here so I won't have to worry about that. What we do get a lot of is rain so that's definitely a concern. From you guys' replies and some more searching around myself, I will probably go with Falkens, Yokohama, Khumo, or Pirelli (I'm surprised nobody mentioned them but I'm thinking because it's a bit more pricey). Any last thoughts on those?
And which site do you guys recommend buying from for the best price? I've been looking at tirerack.com and discounttire.com.
Thanks again fellas!

I never mentioned Pirelli because they arent worth a damn IMO. I've known a few people with them (my boss being one of them) and they handle OK, but they are overpriced and my boss's Bimmer went through them like I go through socks.

Didn't tirerack.com use to carry Falkens? I was gonna look a bit more into Falkens but they don't have the brand listed. Well, I will probably be going with the Yokohama AVID V4Ss from tirerack.com.
Uh....the size on my Falkens right now reads "225/55R16" and the size on the Yokohamas read "225/55VR16". They should fit, right? :) What does those numbers mean again?

They are the same size. The V is the speed rating.
As for what they mean:
225 is the width in millimeters. so 225/25.4=8.86"
55 is the sidewall height aspect ratio with the width. In other words 55% of 225 is the sidewall height. So 8.86*.55=4.873
So 4.873*2=9.746+16=25.75" tall tire
