00 Accord EX installing Cold Air Intake

Just got a new AEM intake from ebay for 90 bucks after hearing about improving gas mileage and power.

I'm wondering if intakes help more for V6s or more powerful cars as my accord in just a 4 cyl.

The extent of my knowledge with a car engine is replacing air filter and doing an oil change. So is it possible for me to install this intake by myself? Are there any tools or anything i should get before starting? Finally, is there any step by step installation videos or any sites that show a easy step by step install as I don't know most automotive jargon.

Sorry for all the questions, but thanks a bunch. You guys on automotive forums seem to really go out to help people.

Seeing that you got it for only $90 I'm assuming it's a Short Ram Intake. A Cold Air Intake actually dips down and gets the air from closer to the ground where the air is a bit colder than in your engine compartment. I just installed a short ram on my 98 civic not to long ago. Piece of cake. Generally speaking the installation should be about the same for the two cars so I'm just going to do a quick run down of the instructions.

Tools needed:
Phillips screwdriver
Flathead screwdriver
10mm socket wrench
Extension for the socket wrench (optional...might help depending on where bolts are)

Instructions:
1) Unscrew clamp on stock airbox pipe on intake manifold (this is back by the firewall... the part of the airbox that goes to the engine area).
2) Unbolt three (3) 10mm bolts holding stock airbox to car (two should be right next to the strut tower; the other one on mine was on the front side between the headlight assembly and the airbox [this is where the extension helps out]).
3) Remove airbox from intake manifold and pull out of engine compartment.
4) Install "rubber piece" on intake manifold (I don't have a name for this. One side goes on the intake manifold and the short ram intake goes in the other end).
5) Place clamp from stock airbox pipe on "rubber piece" connected to intake manifold and tighten.
6) Place one of the clamps that come with the short ram intake on "rubber piece", but do not tighten.
7) Insert intake pipe into "rubber piece". Move clamp from step 6 onto the rubber over the piping and tighten.
8) Place second clamp that came with intake on air intake filter. Once again don't tighten yet.
9) Put intake filter on other end of intake piping. Tighten clamp.
10) Enjoy the look and sound of your new intake system.

Hope that helps. If you have any more questions let me know.

Thanks for the advice, but it is a cold air filter, not a short ram. Is there a big difference in the install? I've heard of the need to elevate the car and take off a wheel or something? Thanks for the help

It'll go out to about short ram length and then dip down. You might need to elevate the car or remove a wheel. I'm not totally sure. I think the AEM ones are pretty good about just going in without having to do any extra work like that but as I said I'm not 100% sure about that. Anyone thats done this before??

i have, its easy. well, at least on a civic :). you don't have to jack it up or remove a tire or any of that bullshit. you will have to take the front bumper off so you can remove all of the resonator crap from behind it ( your stock intake uses a very long plastic tube that kinda loops around to reduce engine noise). so, take the front bumper off, take off all the bolts on the resonator, it will be connected to the big long plastic intake thingy(!), connect the cold air, connect the part that goes to the engine first, then bring the bottom part of the CAI (cold air intake) up through the hole (the one the resonator/intake box air cleaner thingy was in), bolt that shit up, put the bumper back on, and enjoy your more aggressive engine sound. it is only loud when accelerating real hard, unless you have an exhaust...............i don't know if that helps, should be real similar like
