Ask Alex. He won a competition here once. The job was to render a Mercedes SL in a chrome foil. He did an awesome job, as always ;-)

about every 6 to 8 months, someone posts a "request" thread about drawing a "shiny all-chrome car." why? what is the fascination with that?

and the cars are not even chrome. they're either polished stainless or aluminum. a totally-chromed out car would weigh about 7 tonnes.

actually, i dont think it matters what the car is actually coated in. chances are, if the car is chrome, its just chrome plated. i believe he just wants the effect of the "chrome" drawn. its fascinating and challenging because its extremely hard to draw in all the surrounds with the shading, etc on a polished car.

Took the words right outta my mouth :)

Is anyone able to make a render? (colour) of one of these pics for me please? if any of you have time :frown:.

The cars are rarely plated. That would be extremely expensive and very difficult. Often times they are actually painted chrome. There is a chrome paint (I forgot what brand) that looks like real chrome after clear. I've seen several cars "chromed" this way.
