hello again.. i was talking to a friend about my engine heat problem and he mentioned that he had a f-body firebird that did the same thing so he put on an air dam. i dont have one and wasnt sure if they came stock on a 91 z28. anyone know? if not, can you put one on anyway? thanks

They are a stock, must have item.

Can't believe in the other thread when I said to check over the entire cooling system, I left that out.

the only thing that sucks about them is that they scrape on everything

i bent mine in half the first tme i tried to get into my driveway. i just took it off and cooling was never affected. i did buy another one for 5 bucks from a junk yard but never put it on.

In a rural area or area of less traffic congestion you create enough vortex to cool the radiator while moving wihout the air damn.

However in Chicago, July through August and sitting at a dead stop on the Ike doin the two step for a couple of hours without one is suicide.

i was in stop and go traffic last summer, both on local roads and interstates, and never had cooling issues with the airdam off. just my personal experience.

well..i need all the help i can get with cooling this thing off, i've replaced the fans, fixed the electrical problem, flushed the coolant, replaced the radiator cap(which was suggested by a place i took it to) and its still running extremely hot. so im going to put this dam on, flush the radiator, check the water, install a thermostat switch..and after that i'll be pretty much out of ideas. yea this air dam sounds like a strange idea...unless its made out of some heavy duty rubber it sounds like it'll break right off

No the air damn won't break off trust me. It will stay on there. You should check ebay there is some stainless steel air dams that look really nice.

good to hear... not sure if its a part id like to be too flashy though. the idea of a shiny metal peice sticking out from the bottom(thats not an exhaust tip) sounds a little strange to me. its kinda something i dont want noticeable. i wanted to lower mine, im wondering if thats out of the question with a dam.

yeah, a stainless one would look like a kid stuck under there with a shovel

they make good snow plows though. u could also slice up road kill with ease, lol

dont put water in your radiator. when you buy antifreeze if it says mix with water 50/50 use distilled water. and you must use antifreeze, water boils sooner and dosnt do much for your cooling.

I totally agree .......you definately need the air dam installed.
They are super tuff . I've been driving Camaro's since the early 80's and have never broken one. I guess you can break em , but that would mean you are probably going in places that a camaro has no business being in the first place or just not paying attention. I would think that if you were in a position to break off the air dam, - then likely the lower front spoiler is a gonner too. {just my opinon}

Does your car have A/C?
If it does you need to check for trash buildup in between the condensor and the radiator. (If you havn't already)
Pull off the top radiator mount cover and gently spread the radiator and condensor apart vacuum out the leaves and debris and then do a back flush (opposite of normal air flow) of the cooling fins to get out the road grime and dust caked in the fins. Do both the radiator and the condensor . You can also get an aerosol can of aluminum fin cleaner from a HVAC supply house. This will help to cut the road grime and oil film out of the fins without harming them.

wow. so my cars not overheating anymore. with everything ive put into this thing trying to get it cool. the 25 dollar peice of plastic is actually keeping cool(under 220). but hey im not complaining.

Told ya, you need it, it diverts air up into the radiator.

220 is where ya wanta be
